As a non-profit organization dedicated to community development, we recognize the importance of long-term planning and community engagement in shaping the future of Pender Harbour. Our journey began when a concerned local resident offered funds for town improvements, contingent on the creation of a comprehensive 10- or 20-year plan for the community.
Inspired by this opportunity, our director Ron Badley took the initiative to craft a vision for our town’s future. This vision encompasses various improvements, including:
We understand that while regional authorities provide some services, many aspects of community development fall outside their mandate. As a grassroots organization, we’ve taken on the responsibility to address these gaps and drive positive change in our community.
To turn this vision into reality, we recognized the need for professional expertise. Fortuitously, we connected with Maggy Spence, a local resident completing her Master’s degree at UBC in a field related to town planning. Maggy volunteered her time and skills to develop the Pender Harbour Community Wellness Project, a comprehensive study focusing on social, economic, environmental, and cultural factors that contribute to community well-being.
Our mission now is to engage with community members like you to refine and implement this vision. We want to hear your thoughts on the future of Pender Harbour:
– What’s missing in our community?
– What changes would you like to see?
– Should we grow, shrink, or maintain our current size?
– How should we develop spatially?
By working together, we can create a thriving, sustainable community that reflects the desires and needs of all its residents. We invite you to review Maggy’s detailed report and join us in shaping the future of Pender Harbour.
